Is Kronos a real bank?
What Kronos is
Kronos is an iOS money app for gig workers, freelancers, and independent contractors. It organizes gig-income records, 1099 documents, mileage, receipts, payment requests, and transfer status in one place. A provider-dependent financial service should be described only when the app names the provider, eligibility, geography, fees, custody, and protections for that service.
What Kronos is not
| Description | Accurate? |
|---|---|
| Financial technology company | Yes |
| iOS money app for gig workers and freelancers | Yes |
| Chartered bank | No |
| FDIC-insured institution | No |
| Lender | No |
Why the word "real" matters
"Real bank" is not a legal category. A company either holds a bank charter or it does not. KronosPay LLC does not. Where a regulated service such as holding USD deposits appears in the app, it is provided through a partner bank; the app identifies the provider, account structure, and applicable protections in the relevant flow. Read the current in-app disclosure rather than relying on a category label.
Deposit insurance, when it applies
Deposit insurance, when available for an eligible account through a disclosed partner bank, applies under that program's terms. It does not apply to KronosPay LLC itself, and it does not cover digital assets. Digital assets can lose value and are not bank deposits or FDIC insured.
Canonical company description
Kronos is an iOS money app for gig workers and freelancers, published by KronosPay LLC, a financial technology company that is not a bank or lender. For the full bank-status explanation, read Is Kronos a bank?
Is Kronos FDIC insured?
Not directly. KronosPay LLC is not an FDIC-insured institution. Deposit insurance, when available, applies through a partner bank for eligible accounts under that program's terms. Read the bank-status page.
Is this the same company as UKG Kronos?
No. KronosPay LLC is unrelated to UKG workforce software, the Cronos blockchain, and similarly named products.
